With regards to the business impact, China domestic and worldwide travel restrictions are posing some logistical challenges.

“Intelligent & Smart Cabin” (i+sCabin) is a research project for the definition of standards for connected cabin features that has been launched in 2018, comprising the industrial partners KID-Systeme, Bühler Motor, Diehl Aviation, Jeppesen, and Zodiac Aerospace (a Safran company).

 

With the Boeing Company and Etihad Engineering (part of the Etihad Aviation Group) this program has found premium sponsors which secures an international footprint for the achievements of this project. Prestigious university partners (the Baden- Württemberg Cooperative State University and the Hamburg University of Technology) are equally associated partners of the project as well.

 

Boeing’s 2019 ecoDemonstrator program includes connected cabin technologies in which the i+sCabin is a key part of 777 test bed. Flying test installations on board Boeing’s ecoDemonstrator 777 will allow the i+sCabin team to test the principles of cabin communications standards, wireless communications sensor networks and smart functions of galleys very early in the envisioned environment. Also, the team will be able to collect data for predictive health monitoring, making the real-flight environment a valuable addition to the project’s test schedule.

 

i+sCabin is progressing well on schedule since its launch in 2018, with the main milestone of implementation and testing of the first version of the cabin communication standard expected towards the end of 2019 and in the course of 2020, and project finalization set for 2021.

 

As part of the ecoDemonstrator’s flight test program, Boeing is bringing the aircraft to Germany’s biggest airport in Frankfurt for a two-day program on November 19th and 20th. In addition, on November 20th the Etihad Aviation Group will invite to bilateral meetings between UAE and German representatives in order to discuss new future projects. The technology mission of Boeing’s 2019 ecoDemonstrator program will be presented on both days to government officials, industry representatives and STEM students to help inspire the next generation in aerospace leadership.

 

Buxtehude, March 19, 2019 - KID-Systeme GmbH announces a change in its Management Board with the appointment of Fokke Mentjes as Managing Director, effective from 1st of March.

 

Fokke Mentjes succeeds Stefan Baten who assumes a new role within Airbus. Next to Managing Director Peter Schetschine, Fokke Mentjes will be responsible for the overall business of KID-Systeme GmbH including product development, strategy, operations and finance. Previously he worked at Airbus Defence and Space, lastly in the A400M avionics program management.

 

Reflecting on his appointment, Fokke Mentjes said: “I am very excited about the prospect of joining this internationally operating company in the aviation industry, belonging to the top suppliers for electronic cabin systems worldwide. As a member of the Airbus Group and together with a highly motivated and skilled team, we are well prepared to fulfil the needs of our present and future customers.”

 

Fokke Mentjes is a graduate of the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH). After successfully finishing his engineering degree in 1999, he started his career at EADS. Buxtehude, 10th April 2018 – KID-Systeme is selected by Mirus Aircraft Seating Ltd. as single source USB supplier for Mirus’ seat solutions. The SKYpower system will be seen on the Hawk seat as part of Mirus’ significant launch contract with AirAsia. The contract contains the delivery for 300 aircraft, spanning at least a decade.

 

SKYpower offers the flexibility to work with the latest cabin and consumer technologies and will be accessed by IFE peripheral experts IFPL. The system marks the customer’s movement to enhance passenger experience. The high-power USB socket itself, and the In-Seat Power Supply unit minimise both weight and intrusion into the passenger space, whilst providing enhanced passenger experience for WiFi equipped cabins.

April 10th 2018 - Aerospace suppliers are working together with Boeing and Etihad Airways Engineering in an international research project, co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

 

A consortium of leading aerospace companies, supported by associated partners, have launched an ambitious research project that is aimed at providing the basis for aircraft cabin designs of the future, in particular by also connecting separate cabin applications such as seating, galleys and lavatories without cabling. Among the key goals are the integration of cabin systems, and generating a real-time overview of the status of all aircraft cabin areas.

 

For this purpose, the partners Bühler Motor, Diehl (also as project leader), Jeppesen, KID-Systeme and Zodiac Aerospace (a Safran company) have joined forces. They are supported by the associated partners Boeing, the Baden Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW), Etihad Airways Engineering and the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). In addition, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is providing co-funding as part of its aviation research support, contributing an expected amount of 3.9 million Euros to iCabin. Having started at the beginning of 2018, the research project has an expected completion date of March 31, 2021.

 

Each partner is bringing in relevant competences of its product portfolio, ranging from actuation for seats to cabin management systems, cabin interior hardware, connectivity, aircraft operating experience to aircraft integration. The expected result will be a networked system, offering increased comfort and an enhanced travel experience for passengers as well as optimized maintenance cycles and cabin operations for airlines.
